Summary For The Myths of American Exceptionalism Essay Example

Summary For The Myths of American Exceptionalism Paper The author begins with famous quote lines as a clear example of American exceptionalness and the idealistic descriptions of the united States, especially over the last two centuries. As the author notes how American exceptionalness is similar to other nations that claimed exceptionalness as well. He clears out there are no differences between them when it comes to their self-assertion conduct, many which resulted in a righteous attitude that leads them to think they are positive role models to the world. A believe that makes the Americans with their privileges and unique qualities to think they are superior than others, when In fact they are no less different. In the first myth, many examples laid on surface of the superior belief, starting from the British than the French, than ending with Portugal and the Soviet Union. They all rewarded their virtues and qualities with uniqueness, it is the same belief that made Americans point out their exceptionalness. They are a reflection of the past great powers that did the same, which makes it a common thing more than special, to point out what you believe is exceptional. Tied States places their virtues and morals forward to the world, giving a clear righteous image of them, especially as a country that claims to know more right than wrong. Conducting more claims that America has a respectful behavior, far better than other countries or nations, but the high statistics of civilians death caused by the United States, and the many wars that h ad been involved with over the years, which resulted in more damage, only to conclude that the united States are far from perfect when It comes to behavior. As much as the united States would like to believe of their positive global position In the world, but In reality It contradicts many false political actions that America had made. The forth myth clears how blinded Americans are to those actions. One giving statement or speech from the government washes the reality off the minds of many Americans. So whatever knowledge or ideals they think they have about America will usually end up being false, And the constant Justifications of those false actions and weak spots of America, Keeps some of those Americans blind from the truth, and that truth Is America Is not responsible for most of the good In the world, That exact truth had been proven when united States invaded Iraq, and The US troops who expected greetings, got more than what they expected. The last myth the author analysis the delusional divine plan for America, and how their destiny is affected by god with a given mission. An over confident country is the only one that will go In such ways of thinking divinity, and with such confidence it Is dangerous. America might presume those beliefs to think no deceivers or mistakes can fall Into Americas Lovely Nilsson, Leaving America to De no Deterrent Trot toner great powers that claimed virtuousness and divinity. Finally the author gives Americans a chance to view the whole American Exceptionalness with much more open eyes.

Pick one of the countries which became a member of Essays

Pick one of the countries which became a member of Essays Pick one of the countries which became a member of the European Union in May 2004, January 2007 or January 2013. Describe and discuss the process and effects of accession for this country and the EU. http://kypros.org/Cyprus/cy_republic/europe.html http://ec.europa.eu/enlargement/archives/enlargement_process/future_prospects/negotiations/eu10_bulgaria_romania/index_en.htm euractiv.com/euro-finance/european-union-cyprus-awkward-pa-analysis-518835 http://kypros.org/CY-EU/eng/05_benefits/questions1.htm Before the application of Cyprus for EU membership in 1990, the EU's involvement in the island was mostly economic: a custom union between the two sides meant that Brussels did not really involve in the messy politics of the island. What is more, those economic relations were between the EU and the Greek-Cypriot-led Republic of Cyprus, which saw no Turkish-Cypriot participation after the gradual division of the country into two territories and administrations during the sixties and seventies. The application for EU membership was thought to have an important impact on the 'Cyprus issue', the ongoing conflict over the fate of the island: for Greek-Cypriots, EU accession was seen as a 'shield' against potential Turkish military action and a diplomatic advantage, especially given Turkey's interest to join the EU. At the same time, there was a hope that the benefits of EU accession will increase Turkish-Cypriot motivation for resolution. And they certainly did. In 2004, the Turkish-Cypriot approval of reunification based on the UN-proposed Annan Plan was hugely triggered by the EU. From the one hand, Ankara pushed for a resolution of the dispute, which was an obstacle to Turkey's road towards the EU (Turkey was already a candidate since 1999). On the other hand, the benefits of European integration appealed to the Turkish-Cypriots, who supported reunification- they only way for them to join the EU as partners to a federal state with the Greek-Cypriots. Ironically enough, the EU became an important reason for Greek-Cypriots to reject the UN Plan: having safeguarded their accession as the Republic of Cyprus, the EU gave them no motive to contribute to a solution before accession. As a result, in May 2004, the EU witnessed the most awkward enlargement to date: the accession of a divided country. Indeed, some EU elites have subsequently regretted the decision to allow Cyprus enter the EU regardless of a solution. People in Brussels stood particularly frustrated with the Greek-Cypriots, who they did not support reunification. In the following years, the Greek-Cypriot efforts to use EU membership to secure concessions on the Cyprus issue has not always gone down well with EU partners. At the same time, circles in Brussels has became more sympathetic to the Turkish-Cypriots, who-in practise- remain outside the EU, despite favouring reunification. Nevertheless, the division has not stopped Cyprus to be a functioning EU member state. The undertaking of the Presidency last year is perhaps the most obvious example of this. But, the remarks of the EU President Van Rompuy at the opening ceremony of the Presidency leave no room for misunderstandings on how controversial the matter continues to be: 'As long as Cyprus is divided, in a way, Europe will be divided'. Indeed, until today, almost half of the country sees no full application of EU law, Turkish-Cypriots do not take part in EU decision-making andtheir interaction with Brussels, albeit greater than before, continues to be limited. The economic crisis puts a new strain in the relationships between the island and the EU. Because, for all the problems that the Cyprus issue has caused to the relationship between the two sides, this is a new and particularly difficult challenge. Once strongly pro-European people, now Greek-Cypriots lose faith in the EU as a result of the painful bailout agreement and the way it was agreed. Interestingly, Turkish-Cypriots are also frustrated with the EU, which, they think, failed to come up to their expectations for many benefits in reward of their pro-Annan vote. The day after the second bailout agreement, finds relations between Nicosia and Brussels at their lowest point ever. However, this is just one more milestone in the often troubled partnership between the Mediterranean island and the EU. As Cyprus is facing up to tough economic challenges, the forthcoming years will put relationships between the two sides to, perhaps, its most difficult test yet."

Sandstone Reservoirs Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Sandstone Reservoirs - Research Paper Example Examples of sandstone reservoirs are found in Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, coastal basins of Equatorial Africa, United States’ Gulf Coast, Rocky Mountains and Southern North Sea (Stoneley 39). 2. Carbonate Rock Reservoirs Carbonate reservoirs comprise of geologic formation that are naturally fractured which are characterized by heterogeneous permeability and porosity distributions. These are the predominant types of reservoirs all over the world accounting for about 50% of all reservoirs. The distinctive aspect of carbonate reservoirs is their intrabasinal origin. Their mode of formation was primarily dependent on organic activities. They were formed through biochemical processes in special environments. Organisms involved in their formation also contributed in determination of their qualities. Carbonate reservoirs are highly susceptible to processes of modification as a result of post-depositional mechanisms. The variations observed among various carbonate reservoirs res ult from processes such as lithification and compaction (Ahr 50). A notable feature of these reservoirs is their high sensitivity to environmental changes. Changes in temperatures affect biogenic activities thus affecting sediment production. This aspect is what makes carbonate reservoir development depth dependent. Favorable conditions enhance organic productivity while in unfavorable conditions productivity ceases. Carbonate reservoirs are considered autochthonous since they develop close to their final depositional sites. Water energy and basin configuration influences deposition which leads to formation of carbonate reservoirs. Examples of carbonate reservoirs are found in Big Horn Basin in Wyoming and south Caspian basin which encompasses... They develop better vugs and fractures that are relatively important for flow and storage of fluids. Carbonate reservoirs are also harder and tighter than sandstone reservoirs (Renpu 9). Primary porosity of sandstone reservoirs is exclusively interparticle while that of carbonate reservoirs can either be intraparticle, interparticle, intercrystalline, vuggy, fenestral or cavernous. Porosity-permeability relationships of sandstones are relatively consistent and dependent on particle texture while that of carbonate reservoirs are highly varied and independent of particle size (Ahr 53). Shale reservoirs differ from sandstone reservoirs in that shale reservoirs can contain organic mudstones which are not present in sandstone reservoirs. They can also have open fractures which are not common in sandstone reservoirs. Conglomerate reservoirs differ from sandstone reservoirs in that conglomerate reservoirs exhibit an extra-high heterogeneity as a result of a complex pore structure. They also display rapid changes in permeability and porosity between their layers which is not the case with sandstone reservoirs (Zou 298). Advantages of Sandstone Reservoirs Porosity of sandstone reservoirs is uniform over time since it does not diminish with increasing saturation of the reservoir. Chemical processes do not affect the permeability and porosity of sandstone reservoirs. Effects and of micro and macro organisms do not impede fluid transfer through sandstone reservoirs as can be the case with carbonate reservoirs (Renpu 11).

International law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words - 1

International law - Essay Example This means that the decisions made do not have precedents on the other courts, which means that the provisions of international rules will continue to be applied inconsistently. A good example of a rule, however, is the responsibility to protect doctrine, which necessitates intervention in cases of genocide and other widespread human rights abuses. That said, even this doctrine is applied inconsistently, as seen in the case of Sri Lanka, a nation which has been at war for 30 years. This nation has not been the target of R2P intervention, and has, for many years, been largely ignored by the United Nations. This case study shows the limits of international rules of law, and demonstrates the need for a more comprehensive approach to be taken on the international stage. The Traditional Meaning of Sovereignty The United Nations' attempts to establish an international rule of law meets a stumbling block in the form of the concept of state sovereignty. State sovereignty is a powerful and tr aditional concept, and has traditionally been the bedrock of world order and interstate relations. (Supplement to the International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty). What state sovereignty means is that every nation-state has the right to rule its people, and dispose of its resources, by its own independent edicts (International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty, p. 12). Because of the concept of state sovereignty, the protected and respected norm, even by the United Nations, is one of non-intervention. State sovereignty is such a paramount concept that, if one nation violates it, then the offended nation can defend itself by right, and the United Nations protects this right to defend (International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty, p. 12). That said, state sovereignty is not absolute, and is subjected to international rules and regulations. Moreover, in today's globalized world, state sovereignty has become ever-more tenous. The reali ty of today's world is that national borders are often breached by environmental, cultural and economic influences through technological and communication advances (Supplement to the International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty). State sovereignty is also limited in that nations agree that, in order to maintain their sovereignty, to protect their citizens, and this enables the international community to hold wayward nations accountable for their own actions towards their citizens (International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty, p. 12). In other words, if a nation is committing atrocities against its citizens, then that nation effectively relinquishes its own sovereignty, and the international community has the right to step in and intervene when this occurs. International Rule of Law The other concept that should be understood in this context is the concept of an international rule of law, and the brief historical basis for this. Chesterman (2008) h as explored this concept in depth. He states that the international rule of law has been promoted through international treaties, development actors (including donor States), and security actors (such as the U.N. Security Council). The latter has promoted the rule of law as a form of conflict resolution, claims Chesterman. He sees the international rule of law operating to protect human rights by issuing human rights treaties, as well as international codes

Describe your Out of Class Experience Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Describe your Out of Class Experience - Essay Example school period is something not many people do normally and especially when the examinations are near and usually the norm is to be found strictly in reading zones. This was a new experience for me and also for the few friends I was with as i had never done anything like this as I am always busy in the libraries and engaging in group discussions just before an exam which builds up the pressure and tension making remembering harder. This was the exact opposite during this experience as I got to remember even without much reference to class notes and discussions. The insight I got from this whole experience was that education is possible anywhere as long as one puts their mind to what they are studying or being taught and is relaxed. It was during my summer holiday break last year, when i had an opportunity to experience another out of class experience by attend a seminar that is related to my course in school and that was being held near my home town. The seminar was a five days affair with five different motivational guest speakers most of whom were born in that town and had become successful in their careers. The aim of the seminar was to motivate and encourage the students pursuing this course and who are from my home town not to dwell on their backgrounds but think about the future and how they could change that whichever way they wanted. These were ideal speakers as they had experienced almost all the trials, tribulations and joys that are present in this town and hence the far they reached and whatever they had achieved by the time the seminar was being conducted was possible for the students residing in this location. This got me to start dreaming big about my future and how all the challenges I was currently facing in school and in life as a result of the geographical locations should not be a hindrance but act as a stepping stone towards a bright future. I even got one of the speakers to be my role model to help me in achieving this dream and

Shopping online

Shopping online Chapter 1 Introduction 1. Research Background With economics development, more and more customers are shopping online which is not incurable way. The customers can directly go to web site and search some information and purchase products or any services which is basic for e-commerce. Moreover, consumer-purchases are mostly based on information of product how it shows out, such as pictures of product, quality information, delivery time and price etc ( Park Kim 2003, Kolesar and Galbraith 2000). As shopping online cannot tough or smell the products, therefore the web site and sellers reputation are very important which might be affected the consumers purchase making decision (Park Kim 2003, pp.16). As internet has already linked to all of countries, it effectively advances the business development and there is no limited for them. Internet is not only advanced telecommunications, but also appearance of e-commerce has helped advance the environment which promotes the globalisation of markets throughout the world (Aljifri, et al 2003, pp.130). Moreover, e-commerce shows that lots of benefits, for example, expend the information area, development and innovation the new technologies, do some promotion for product sales and other services, and also cooperation between those in a supply chain (Aljifri, et al 2003, pp.130 OECD, 1997). However, as it has grown and become an important tool for some, the most of people are still reluctant in indulging in this recent fact. It is not argued that consumers are not browsing through e-commerce sites altogether, it shows that is increasing however the number of people that actually purchase from these e-commerce sites is low. According to Croner (2000), the biggest barrier to e-commerce growth is nor technology, but peoples attitude towards it. Some consumers are still feeling online shopping is difficult to trust. According to Moseley (2000) e-commerce to be towards a viable market place and people should trust the internet. In the future, e-commerce will be dependant and also develop relationships between website and customers which can increase the creditable from website and more confidence from customers. In a recent survey by Commerce Net, (2000), the top business to consumer barriers identified fro growth of e-commerce worldwide were security and encryption, trust and risk, user authentication and lack of public key infrastructure, and legal issues. Global e-commerce, in its current embryonic state, cannot be overly regulated in order to promote innovation and growth. Yet measures need to be taken to implant trust between all parties in e-commerce. Atif (2002) recently proposed a system that utilizes a network based intermediaries designed to eliminate some of the transactional risks in conducting e-commerce transactions. He proposed the introduction of trust service providers (TSP) to act on behalf of all the parties involved in these transactions. Implementations of such systems will help to promote security within e-commerce transactions. Stories of criminal behavior in the e-commerce arena have created a stereotype for e-commerce that portrays the internet as an area of little governance and no true security. This stereotype has generated the lack of trust in electronic transactions and establishing trust highly depends on user perceptions. The concept of trust in e-commerce has influenced many scholars from many different academic areas, which are elaborated later in the study. Previous research has concentrated on the adoption of e-commerce (Yaholm et al., 1993; Thomas., 1994; Cheskin Research, 1999; Beale, 1999; Periera, 1999; Siyal, 2000) all reveal consumers do not trust the existing security technologies and the general e-commerce set up. Studies also displayed that customers are worried about the delivery of their products ordered via the internet and about fraudulent e-merchants (Cheskin Research, 1999;Beale, 1999). At the same time consumers are becoming more mature, sophisticated and intelligent, are demanding higher levels of product information before making purchasing decisions (Periera, 1999). Further research by Beale (1999) on e-commerce trust revealed that consumers are concerned about the privacy and protection of their personal information (including their credit card numbers, social insurance or security numbers and buying pattern history) when shopping online. Previous research in to e-commerce trust aimed to identify trust, loyalty and likelihood of online purchase as the focal points of the investigation (Swaminathan et al, 1999; Jarvenpaa Tractinsky, 1999; Jungwon et al, 1999). This study will also look into to these issues however at the same time it will attempt to provide further insight in to the factors that influence consumer trust online. This will involve examining the already proposed trust element of online vendors, from a consumer perspective, particularly focusing on the difference in purchasing demands between different ethnic origins. 1.2 Research objectives and questions The study will compare online demand between white (European) and Asians, which is explained in more detail later in the study. The study will aim to provide answers to the following research questions and objectives; Highlight from a psychological, business and consumer behavior papers the principles of trust. Examine the relative importance of trust in e-commerce. Identify and examine factors that determine consumers levels of trust towards the concept of e-commerce. Investigate the concept of online trust under different categories of consumers, i.e. according to education, computer experience, ethnic origin etc. Look in to vendor characteristics and reputation elements to explore how likely they are to inspire trust online. 1.3 Contribution of the study 1.4 Research structure This dissertation will be structured as below, Chapter 2 – Literature review Chapter 3 – Research methodology will be aimed towards an inductive approach, and will involve the following research processes: Review the current theory and research findings on the concept of online trust. Use existing theory and methodology in order to provide a method of investigation. Collect data and investigate in to factors by analyzing and presenting the findings. Use the research findings in order to improve or justify previous studies and provide further conclusions. To acquire the perceptions and attitudes of consumers towards the concept of online trust the research used structured questionnaires. This was achieved through a street survey taking place in Sheffield. The theoretical framework created to investigate the factors and the selected methods of investigation, (i.e. questionnaire design and sampling method) are explained in great depth in chapter three. Chapter two has concentrated on the theoretical background associated to the research subject, looking in to the concept of trust, online trust and factors that influence trust. This chapter also highlights in greater detail the security and privacy issues related to consumers. Chapter 4 – Data analysis and findings will present the findings which have been collected from the data sources, evaluate and discuss the findings in the context of this particular study. Data analysis of the research findings is found in chapter four, with constant reference to aspects related to the aims of the research Chapter 5 – It includes a discussion of the results with relation to research objectives. The findings will identify key elements that online vendors may want to focus upon in order to inspire trust, therefore recommendations are provided in this chapter. It also includes summarized research findings and the research limitations are acknowledged.

Incest in Greek Mythology Essay -- Exploratory Essays Research Papers

Incest in Greek Mythology      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Incest in Greek mythology was a common occurrence. Part of the reason is that the gods themselves set the example, and since everything that happened in society was the result of the passion of the gods, this, of course, gave the characters in the Greek plays the opportunity to also lust after their children and relatives. While the story of Oedipus the King is the delineating play on the subject, Greek mythology is full of incestuous relationships.    The gods who inspired the love and hate relationships among families include Hermes, who used his magical use of language to lure the feelings of his brother Apollo away from jealousy to love. Hermes' reward was divination, and he became the god who protected travelers, symbolized by the crossroads-or the choices made. Sarah Harrell states that Hermes' crossroads includes the crossroads to sexuality, typified by the love the brothers developed for one another. Although this love is most often viewed as familial and positive, Harrell invokes the retelling of Homer's Hymn to Hermes in which the threats of domination can be viewed in terms of sexual innuendo (Harrell 309). In fact, Harrell compares the actions of Apollo and Hermes to those of Zeus and his brother Poseidon, the rulers-and progenitors-of the Earth. Therefore, these brotherly ties, based on the loving relationships between brothers, begin with Zeus and Poseidon, thus extending the same type of familiarity to all brothers o f the world.    As further proof of incest and Zeus's contribution to the image in Greek mythology is the story of Chiron, who was born of a union between Zeus and Ixion, the son of Ares (Sharman-Burke and Greene 33). Cuban Missile Crisis and Cold War Assignment Essay

During the 1960’s, one of the most thing that the American government and the American people had to face was the Cold War. People who grew up during the 1950’s, 60’s, and 70’s would have talked about the war like it was an everyday thing. But, as the years and decades have gone by people have might have a different option and some might not even know or remember what it was. Interviewing 3 people will show what the average citizen knows or remembers about the Cold War. During the interviews, I asked 3 questions that would help me find this answer. They included, what words or phrases come to mind when you think of the term Cold War? Did you ever study the Cold War in school? If so, what are some aspects of the Cold War that you remember? Who were the parties involved in the Cold War? Can you name any key events that we mainly associate with the Cold War? The first person that was interviewed said the first word that came to mind when asked about the Cold War was the Cuban missile crisis. This person did study the Cold War in school and remembered that the United States was trying to keep most of the things discrete when it came to the political side of the war. The parties involved according to this person were the United States and the Soviet Union. Some of the key events that were associated were of course the Cuban Missile Crisis, the dealership of arms at the time, and the nuclear weapons involved. This person remembered a key point in the Cold War but, did not remember in detail what was taught in school. The second person that was interviewed stated the key things that came to mind about the Cold War, was the Soviet Union. They also mentioned that the Soviet Union had fallen after the Cold War. This person has also studied the Cold War in school and remembered that it lasted a long time and was after WWII. This person said the parties that were involved were the Soviet Union and the United States. The key elements that most people would relate to the Cold War were the length of the war and that it cost the United States so much money. They stated that the war was over a 4 decade period and said it cost upward to 8 trillion dollars and countless numbers of lives lost. This person knew about the cold war but only remembers a little of what was taught from school. The final person that was interviewed, stated that the first thing that came to mind when asked about the Cold War was the war was based the state of military rivalry and political tensions. The war consisted of the United States government and the government of the Soviet Union. The United States lost many lives in the hundreds throughout the long drawn out war. The person stated that they did study the Cold War in school and can remember how controversial it was for the American people and also with the government. The individual stated that the two parties they can think have been the United States and the Soviet Union. Finally, a key element of the war that was known across the United States was that the war had the complications of nuclear weapons and the countries trying to become a leader in arms dealing. Basically, see who had the most weapons and the more military firepower and power overall. This person had more knowledge as far as the understanding and remembrance of the Cold War. After conducting the interviews about the Cold War, there are some similarities to what the people who were interviewed had said. The definition of the Cold War was similar to the one given at the beginning of the assignment. All of the definitions of what the cold war was about and what were the key elements have to do with the political issues and the issues of the American people. This shows that people were divided in deciding if the Cold War was the right way to go. There was a lot of tension and cautiousness about the topic of the Cold War.

How does Shakespeare engage the audience in Ac 4, Scene 1 of Othello Essays

How does Shakespeare engage the audience in Ac 4, Scene 1 of Othello Essays How does Shakespeare engage the audience in Ac 4, Scene 1 of Othello Essay How does Shakespeare engage the audience in Ac 4, Scene 1 of Othello Essay This scene Act 4, scene 1- reinforced the purpose of the play; jealousy. Act 3 finishes very uneasy. Desdemona has now recognised her husband is jealous even though she never gave him cause, she has never realised that the handkerchief is missing and is causing Othello to become angrier. Desdemonas response to this shows the wide-awake, down-to-earth realism about human affairs of which she has already given evidence. It is clear that something of her sense of the absolute and unique nature of their love has been diminished. The spring of the tragedy is now wound up to its tightest and all we can do is be helpless as it unwinds with irresistible and utterly destructive momentum. Shakespeare uses many different themes through the play, one of them being racism. This is a topic brought up many times in the play. Racism is one of the reasons that Iago dislikes Othello, referring him as an old black ram! This shows how jealous Iago is and how false his portrayal of Othello actually is. Iago commands Othellos imagination, conjuring up distressing images of infidelity early in the scene. Iago plays devils advocate by saying be naked in bed with her friend. He suggests Desdemonas honour -like her handkerchief- is hers to give away as she chooses. Othello, however, is incapable now of perceiving the physical existence of it with the guilty that Iago has steepened. Without even needing to think, he predictably says that the handkerchief is a sign of Desdemonas honour. Iago obliquely applies with his literalistic characteristic. Her honour is an essence thats not seen: They have it very oft that have it not But for the handkerchief- Othello evidentially didnt need to be reminded. You know this from the quote I would most gladly have forgotten it! Despite trying to forget it, he clearly cant banish it from his thoughts. Othello speaks disjointedly and distractedly he is barely in control of his own senses. He contradicts himself throughout this from the earlier line, to be once in doubt is once to be resolved. Othello is desperate to find out that the truth between doubt and certainty. Hes stuck between longing and loathing Desdemona. His convulsion is the physical expression of his inner torment. It is ironic that Iago calls his poisoness influence, medicine. (Line 45, Act 4, scene 1) It seems cruel that Iago should tell Othello to bear your fortune like a man (line 61) while at the same time torturing him with thoughts who make other men cuckolds every night. Iago knows that Othello will begin to lose his huge pride and make this idea endurable. His promise to be, most cunning in my patience (line 91) is alarming; Othello also intends to be most bloody in the same line. Could this be a sign of him moving closer to the atrocity of the final act? We might also view his striking of Desdemona as a prelude to the physical violence that is to occur later in the play. Between the lines of 90-97, you see that Iago jokes about Biancas fondness for Cassio, proving that Iago is rather heartless. It is a creature that dotes on Cassio. Like many times before, the theme of animals is brought in. I think this means that they use the idea of use and abuse as if theyre treating her as if she has no feelings herself. However, the Elizabethan audience werent the slightest bit bothered by this. They saw prostitution and such a common thing that would happen quite a lot. Othello would never get much sympathy from the audience because of racial circumstances. The audience were often white and catholic which was everything the Moor was not. Othello was black and was most likely to be Muslim. Most of the sympathy would fall on Desdemona throughout the play. The dramatic effect of Othellos many asides could elevate the scene to become farcical. Iago and Cassio represent soldiers poorly throughout this scene. This could be because soldiers seem to know exactly what they want, whereas they do not. Theyre also made out to be very crude and disrespectful towards women. This was how they were viewed in line 16 as well. The most low and rough joined the army. This is a theme mentioned throughout the play. In scene 4, on line 145 onwards it mentions the handkerchief again. This, is Othellos eyes is evidence that Desdemona committed adultery. In Othellos eyes, there is only black and white. There are no suspicions but only obvious convictions. After Bianca throws down the handkerchief in front of Othello, Othello says the line, By heaven, that should be my handkerchief! (Line 154) This sounds like an anguished cry of recognition escaping from Othello as the fateful handkerchief appears again. Iago is anxious to get rid of Cassio in case he says anything that might reveal that it is Bianca that he had been talking about before she had entered. Lot of Biancas lines and verses are very bland and not poetic. I think Shakespeare wrote like this so Bianca appears low class because shes a prostitute. I think this is a good idea. It reminds the reader about the character attitude and personality. On line 161, an anxious mood is created. I may chance to see you, for I would very fain speak with you. Othello needs no more persuading now. The only question running through his mind is How? Iago doesnt reply and this enrages Othello even more. There are opposing feelings portrayed in line 182. I do but say what she is. So delicate with her needle. This is a memory of Desdemona before she poisoned his thoughts. The line the pity of it, Iago has an effect on the audience. By the use of the word pity it makes the reader feel sorry for him. This is a good technique. Catholics around in the Elizabethan time considered adultery a massive sin. They felt if you committed adultery youd go to hell and burn. They felt it was against the 10 commandments.

Cultural geography has changed my view of the world Essay

Cultural geography has changed my view of the world - Essay Example nd that the main reason for the growth of the international business in the global economy from the 20th century is due to transport and communication improvements brought about by globalization. This explains the increased business relations of between various countries across the globe. The economic and cultural interdependence seen in the world is also because of globalization. It has also enabled me to understand the aspect of westernized world and why it has been influential across the globe. It has helped me understand that the process of westernization joins the western influences and interests with parts of those countries that are affected. These affected countries or communities are often trying their best to understand and change towards the westernized society in search of the western life or some of its aspects. Cultural geography has also helped me understand that there are three categories of landscapes ranging from those built by humans, others that have evolved organically, and others that are associative or valued due to religion, art, or cultural dimensions. Initially, I thought globalization had done the world more harm than good due to the economic hardships witnessed in some countries. These economic hardships resulted into increased difference between the rich and the poor. However, globalization, according to cultural geography has enhanced increased the levels of communication and transportation thus increasing the levels of international business in the global economy (Ritzer, 2010). Moreover, I had the notion that western countries are less affected in the aspect of westernization of non-western countries. However, such western countries adopt various changes either cultural or psychological in the event of establishing contacts with various other groups in non-western groups in the globe. They adopt changes, which are in line with their lifestyles, physical appearances and other aspects and shifts in the cultural patterns. Moreover, I
